　　2018年，誕生於1918年的音樂大師伯恩斯坦（Leonard Bernstein） ，即將誕生100年。為此，Sony唱片公司特別將旗下所擁有的伯恩斯坦創作樂曲之錄音，集合成這一套25CD的專集以為緬懷與紀念。

　　伯恩斯坦是集指揮家、作曲家、演奏家、教育家、理論家於一身的藝術大師，其藝術造詣舉世推崇，並堪稱是本世紀最偉大的指揮家、作曲家及鋼琴家。1918年8月25日出生於麻薩諸塞州的勞倫斯，而於1990年10月14日去世。其主要音樂教育完成於哈佛大學，1939年畢業後，又在寇蒂斯音樂院隨萊納學習作曲，1940年在壇格塢伯克夏音樂中心向庫塞維茨基（Sergey Koussevitzky）學習指揮。

　　 專輯收錄25張CD的曲目，並以黑膠唱片封套的尺寸作為包裝設計。收錄他所創作的交響曲、協奏曲、室內樂、劇場作品、芭蕾與歌曲。其中部分作品還是由伯恩斯坦親自指揮與演奏。錄音母帶經24 bit / 192 kHz重新處理，完美重現當年的錄音效果。

　　早在伯恩斯坦成為專業指揮前，就已經以作曲家身分聞名樂壇，擔任指揮後亦有不少傑作。重要作品有音樂歌舞劇「西城故事」（West Side Story）、「錦城春色」（On The Town, 1944），歌劇「憨第德」（Candide, 1956），第1號交響曲「耶利米亞」（Jeremiah, 1942）、第2號「不安的年代」（The Age of Anxiety, 1949）、第3號「卡迪希」（Kaddish, 1963），以及小提琴獨奏、弦樂與打擊樂的「小夜曲」（Serenade, 1954），芭蕾舞劇「自由想像」（Fancy Free, 1944）等。

　　 伯恩斯坦的部分作品兼具有爵士樂的明朗個性與古典樂的深思性格。雖然是兩種相衝突的元素，伯恩斯坦的作曲卻能將他們融合妥貼，彰顯了他高明的作曲功力。若將他的作品改編以爵士樂演奏也就順理成章。因而專輯中也收錄了兩張由多位爵士樂手演奏的錄音，包含了Dave Brubeck, Gary Burton, Aaron Bell, Eldar Djanirov, J.J. Johnson, Brandford Marsalis, Gerry Mulligan, André Previn, Martial Solal, Richard Stoltzman等人的演奏。

　　儘管伯恩斯坦在指揮上的成績有目共睹，然而這套專輯更表彰了他在作曲上的成就，不僅是伯恩斯坦的樂迷不可或缺的錄音，更是現代音樂愛好者必備的典藏。
